V2 KG30 6402 Green - TONEX
$24.99

Korg era Vox AC30/6TB (90’s AC30) into 90’s 6402 cone Celestion Greenback

This capture is based on my favorite amp, the Korg-era Vox AC30/6TB loaded with a 6402 cone Celestion Greenback. This amp, in particular, has a special history. It was previously owned by Nick Wheeler of The All-American Rejects, where it was used primarily as a touring amp before eventually being sold due to the ridiculous volume it produces. AC30s can be hit or miss, and this particular example sounds incredible. Unlike a stock AC30, this amp has a Mercury Magnetics output transformer, which made a noticeable positive difference compared to the stock one in EQ, breakup, and feel. It sounds balanced and full, the breakup is tight and harmonic, and it has that classic AC30 clarity without getting out of hand.

The 6402 cone Greenback offers a tight low end, balanced mids, and an open yet controlled top end. You still get the AC30’s harmonic complexity, just with the edges kept in check. When pushed, it blooms with that classic Greenback compression, a crisp top end, and low-mid weight that you can feel under your fingers.

Together, the AC30 and 6402 cone Greenback make for a dependable, versatile, and mix-ready pairing that can cover nearly any scenario you’d find yourself in.

  • The amp was tube rolled to achieve the most balanced eq and tasteful breakup response.

  • This purchase includes one capture using a Shure 545 into an API 512c preamp.

  • V2 captures do not include lifetime updates. Lifetime updates were limited to V1 capture purchases.

V2 PSNC V10 - TONEX
$24.99

Fender Prosonic into Celestion G10 Vintage

This capture is based on the Fender Prosonic, a slight outlier in the historical Fender amp lineup. This amp doesn’t really sound like most classic Fender circuits. It has a thick low end, a forward midrange, and a smooth top end that begins to open into an interesting texture as the amp transitions into saturation.

V2 CMRA Custom Web - TONEX
$24.99

Benson Chimera into Benson Custom Ceramic

This capture is based on my Benson Chimera running into a Weber-made Benson Custom Ceramic speaker. This amp has a very distinct voice compared to many others. It also features Mercury Magnetics transformers, which contribute to its uniquely tasteful breakup and feel. The amp has a noticeable midrange forwardness and punch while remaining balanced and controlled. The low end and top end stay tight, and the breakup holds together while remaining punchy, even as the amp becomes more saturated.

The Benson Custom Ceramic speaker pairs extremely well with this amp. It has a sweet, controlled top end, a subtly scooped midrange compared to a 6402 cone Greenback, and a strong low-end presence that never gets out of control.

V2 JMI 30/6 Blue Fang - TONEX
$24.99

Music Ground JMI 30/6 into JMI labeled Fane 100w Alnico Blue

This capture is based on my JMI 30/6 loaded with incredibly rare JMI-labeled Fane 100w Alnico Blues. This particular amp was built by Steve Giles when he still worked at Music Ground, before the quality control there declined. Its design is a part-for-part reconstruction of an early ’60s AC30 and it sounds noticeably massive compared to almost any amp it’s put up against. It has a robust low-end weight, an interestingly textured midrange and top end, and a breakup that is raw and aggressive.

The JMI-labeled Fane 100w Alnico Blues are some of the most unique speakers I’ve ever heard. They have an extremely broad, open, yet weighty EQ, and when paired with the JMI 30/6 you get a thunderous breakup that remains tight and punchy.

This combo is perfect if you want the AC30 sound with extended low-end size, an open and aggressive top end, and a breakup that is textured and reactive.
